Roy’s Peak, a mountain between Wanaka and Glendhu Bay, is a popular spot for tourists posing for Instagram photos. I wanted to get my own mind and set out on my own.
The trail is a bit boring. You walk fairly steeply up on a wide and zigzag road for some eight kilometers. After about seven Kilometers you will come to the well-known viewing point that you see on each photo.

Technically it’s an easy walk. The path is wide and easily accessible. However, it is steep, the total rise is approximately 1,250 meters. I walked to the top in four hours, so I climbed around 300 meters per hour. The trail was simple, but my calves occasionally burned.
But the wonderful view over mountains and lakes at sunset was still worth it.
